Changing perceptions: Denise Welch

As a member of the Loose Women panel and the winner of Celebrity Big Brother, Denise Welch was a tabloid favourite and a mainstay of women’s magazines.

But something was being forgotten: her incredible acting talent. Denise rose to fame as Marsha Stubbs in ITV’s Soldier Soldier, and electrified the cobbles during her stint on Coronation Street.

Denise wanted to prove that she could still give a powerful performance. She co-produced and starred in Black Eyed Susan, a short film that explored her own battle with mental health and showcased that her acting powers had grown.

Daniel Hughes PR was brought on board to organise a screening and create buzz in the press. Black Eyed Susan was screened at a US film festival and won ‘Best Short Drama’. Back in the UK, broadcast and print media refocused their attentions on Denise’s considerable talent.
